- Carmarthen 1 - 1 Bridgend 3rds
Saturday 15th October Carmarthen welcomed Bridgend 3rds at home to much anticipation after Bridgends 10-0 victory against Bridgend 4s last week. The game started in glorious sunshine and the momentum of the game swung back and forth without anyone gaining the upper hand for very long. The first opportunity came after Carmarthen gave up a short corner but defender Ryan 'Jags' put his body on the line and Carmarthen were able to clear their lines effectively. Jags was replaced temporarily and Defender Dave F came on from the bench to make some important tackles to allow Carmarthen to get back up to the Bridgend half. Wingers Luke and Will exploited the space out wide for Bridgend playing some lovelly 1-2s with midfielder Cai and Carmarthens best chance of the opening 20 came when striker Tom was put through one on one with the goal keeper. Remarkably the Bridgend goal keeper managed to somehow clear the ball through the legs of Tom and eased the pressure on his side. A few moments later, Lee Richardson playing at RB took the sideline ball quickly giving Carmarthen some momentum, the ball was played up to Jonti playing his first game for the club and with some spectacular turns he fired the ball across the face of the 'D' but unfortunately Carmarthen weren't able to capitalise on the opportunity. The first goal of the game came from a Bridgend short corner just before the half time whistle leading to a 1-0 score at half time for the visitors. The second half started with Bridgend being awarded a short corner but some remarkable saves from goal keeper Lee J kept Carmarthen in the game. The heavens then opened and Carmarthen took full opportunity to attack the Bridgend half while enjoying some 'light' rain. Carmarthen upped the pace of the game with midfielder Duncan providing some spark and attacking the Bridgend goal, the ball made its way out to the right hand side of the 22 where Josh 'JR' was waiting for the ball, he fired it across where the ball was pushed into the air and taken down superbly by Gwynne with the ball landing in the lap of Tom who obliged and fired at the goal where Wally was waiting for an easy tap in from a well worked team goal. 1-1 In the last 10 minutes Bridgend had a sustained bit of pressure but Russel coordinated his defence well allowing Carmarthen to clear all the pressure and allowing the attack to go forward and try and win the game. A second goal alluded both teams and the final score was 1-1. Shout out to striker Jonti for playing his first game for the club and being awarded with the teams MoM
- M1 - Cardiff Met v CAHC (3-2)
Report by Osain Evans Cardiff Met VI 3- 2 Carmarthen Carmarthen travelled to Cardiff for their first away game of the season. A frantic opening 15 saw Carmarthen dominant in position and territory but Cardiff having the better chances. Cardiff duly opened the scoring with an excellent shot to the bottom left corner from a Penalty Corner. Carmarthen were game for the challenge however, and an incisive pass to Luke Dunning saw Dunning convert from the top of the D to equalize. Cardiff remained undeterred and converted pressure in to Penalty Corners, scoring 2 more goals before the half from set pieces. The halftime whistle brought an end to the Cardiff salvo, and bought Carmarthen a much needed reprieve. The 2nd half opened with more waves of attacks from Cardiff, their full complement of 16 matchday squad players ensuring a fresh 11 at all times. Carmarthen dug deep and rode their luck when needed, and thanks to imperious keeping from keeper Lee Jones, and a head height goal line clearance from defender Ryan Carvey that had to be seen to be believed, Carmarthen hung on. Hopes of a point away from home were ignited when a scramble in the Cardiff Met D saw forward Dave Stevens poach a goal at close at close range, bringing the score to 3-2. The final quarter saw Carmarthen throw bodies forward as time became an increasing concern. They saw several close chances go begging but could not find the back of the net with the clock winding down. The final whistle brought a spectacular game to a close, with Carmarthen feeling they just needed another 5 minutes to complete the comeback. An excellent team performance against a quality opposition showed plenty of positives for the season ahead. Man of the match was awarded to Luke Dunning for his seemingly inhuman work rate and his well taken strike. Carmarthen host Bridgend 3s at home next week, with both sides vying to prove their status as contenders for the upper league positions

- M1 - CAHC v Whitchurch (4-2)
Writer - Steffan Rhys Walters Carmarthen started their campaign at home against Whichurch and recorded a 4-2 win for the home team. The match started quickly with Captain Osian Evans pouncing on a loose ball inside the opposition 22 driving into the 'D' and slotting the ball in the back of the net to give Carmarthen an early 1-0 lead. For the next 25 minutes Carmarthen camped in the opposing half playing some wonderful hockey but some fine saves from the whitchurch goalkeeper kept them alive in the game. 5 minutes from half time Whitchurch caught Carmarthen on the break to level up the match leading to the score being tied 1-1 at half time. Carmarthen started the second half well but it was Whitchurch that scored the opening goal in the second half going up 2-1. Some nervous moments then followed as Whitchurch caught Carmarthen on the break but Keeper Lee Jones made a spectacular diving stick save to keep the score at 2-1. Next was Carmarthen's chance to attack and after a shot into the Whitchurch D some confusion errupted in their defence leading to the ball hitting the post and landing right in the lap of striker Jack Brennan who obliged the home fans and hit the ball in the back of the net levelling off the score at 2-2. After leveling the score, Carmarthen were firmly in control. This time it was Carmarthen's chance to try out the counter attack, the ball was pushed forward to Gwynne who striked the ball at the edge of the 'D', the keeper made a fine save but the ball rebounded straight into Gwynne's lap and he slotted it home for Carmarthen's third of the day. The fourth and final goal came from a run down the right hand side of the pitch from winger Luke Dunning who ran into the D and stiked the ball into the back of the net. Final score 4-2. Special shoutout to Ryan 'Jaguar' for his man of the match display after a spectacular performance at left back.

- Ladies 2nds Secure Promotion and a Spot in the League Cup Final
In a top of the table clash, CAHC 2s faced Cardiff & Met 4s in what was sure to be a tough match. With the away leg being Carmarthen’s only defeat so far this season, a draw at home would ensure the 2XI’s promotion for next season. The 2s were all in for the win though as not only would this give them a fighting chance at catching Met in the table with only two league games left to play, but the match was also going to be counted as the semi-final of the league cup. From the off, intensity was high, play was fast and it was clear that this was going to be a close match. Both teams had early chances and neither could keep possession for long. Midfielders Lucy Davies, Mari Davies, Kate Howell, Tirion Evans and Poppy Mackenzie-Jones worked tirelessly to keep the game under Carmarthen’s control and the ball out of the defensive quarter. A missed opportunity by Met gave Carmarthen a quick break, with forward Yasmin Burgess-Williams receiving the ball, tapping it through the Met defenders and making a lightning-quick run towards goal before firing a shot past the keeper, 1-0 Carms. The speed of play remained for the rest of the half, Carmarthen trying their best to slow the game down, but Cardiff’s abundance of substitutions were forcing the intensity higher. Eventually, only minutes from half-time, Cardiff earned a short corner. The initial defensive effort got the ball out of the 23, but it quickly came back in and a lucky deflection gave Cardiff the goal they had been looking for. The score was even going into half-time. Spirits were high in the Carmarthen camp going into the second half, the 2s knew they were starting to irritate Met with their solid press and triangle passes and the win was still very much up for grabs. It was quickly apparent that Cardiff had adapted their press to completely cut off Carmarthen’s transfer options, but movement from the 2s broke it up nicely. Pressure from Carmarthen’s forwards Siriol Richards, Charlotte Harries, Ffion Raymond and goalscorer Burgess-Williams kept the pressure firmly on Met with several short corners awarded to the home side. Finally, a blocked shot fell to Richards who deflected the ball into the net, Carmarthen were back in the lead, 2-1. The game was far from over though, Cardiff advanced yet again and after a couple of top-drawer saves from Carmarthen keeper Lowri Davies, a loose ball was picked up by a Met attacker and nobody could stop her short-range tap in at the post, 2-2. The match was winding down, fatigue was well and truly setting in and Carmarthen defenders Ellie Routley, Emily Stibbs and Delyth Rees were doing everything they could to keep Cardiff at bay. The thought of always stressful penalty flicks to decide the result started to loom in the minds of both teams. But then, another period of attack by Carmarthen saw the ball find its way to youngster Mackenzie-Jones right at the top of the ‘D’, and, with her signature slap hit of the ball, she sent it rocketing through the Cardiff defence and onto the backboard, 3-2 with minutes to go! Cardiff threw their all in, a massive defensive effort from the entire Carmarthen team denied them a goal from open play, but just as the final whistle was about to blow, they won a short-corner. This was the final play of the game, Cardiff sent it to the top, slipped it out wide and let off a shot which was picked up by Stibbs and swiftly directed at the foot of the Cardiff attacker, ending the match. Promotion is now guaranteed for the 2s, and a place in the league cup final too. Carmarthen 2XI’s next matches will be the Challenge cup semi-final on Sunday 22nd in Cardiff against Gwent 4s.
- Ladies 1sts Win Against Cardiff Uni 3rds
The ladies 1sts were last to play for Carmarthen on Saturday 12th of March, with a tough match against Cardiff Uni 3rds. Stakes were high to keep the winning streak going on this super Saturday. Carmarthen were put under pressure straight away from the away side but defenders Ffion Evans, Leia Thomas and Ffion Dart held strong and denied any shots to keeper Lowri Davies. Carmarthen started to gain momentum through the midfield and some nice passes led to chances in the attacking D. After some hard work by forwards Bethany James, Sara Evans and Cerys Smith, Carmarthen was awarded a penalty corner. A great strike from Ffion Church found the backboard putting Carmarthen in front. Cardiff Uni were quick to react and a few shots were thrown out way, but keeper Davies kept the goals away. In the 2nd half, both sides were starting to tire. The midfield of Catrin Soons, Rose Charnley and Ffion Church were furiously tracking up and down the field keeping Cardiff away from our D. Anna Heath played some lovely one-twos to her teammate Scarlett McKenzie Jones. A great ball from Scarlett found Kate Williams in the D but the shot unfortunately went wide. The final 10 minutes found Carmarthen under lots of pressure. However they pulled through and a big defensive block denied any goals to Cardiff leaving the score line 1-0 at the final whistle. Mom went to Leia Thomas for her great defensive efforts during the game. The Ladies 1sts look forward to their final game of the season next week vs Penarth.
- Match Report of our Men’s Team win against Whitchurch 6ths
Carmarthen AHC welcomed Whitchurch 6ths on Saturday 12th of March, having lost the corresponding away fixture before Christmas. Carmarthen looked eager to play expansively from the first whistle. Matchday captain Osian Evans played an incisive pass to young striker Josh Gwynne, who struck from the top of the D, finding the bottom corner. Gwynne soon doubled his tally, and the lead, with another excellent strike from a penalty corner. Whitchurch managed a riposte before the break, capitalising on a bouncing loose ball and bringing the score to 2-1 to the hosts at the interval. Carmarthen started the second half started in the same vein as the first, and when another searching ball in from Evans struck the post, experienced fullback Steffan Walters was the first to react and cooly slotted home for Carmarthen’s third of the game. Carmarthen put the game to bed in the final quarter, as Walters recovered the ball from a scramble and played it in to winger Adam Poole who was on the right hand post to touch the ball in from close range. The match ended Carmarthen 4-1 Whitchurch. A superb effort by all to get back to winning ways despite missing several key players. Man of the match was awarded to Josh Gwynne for his superb display in front of goal. Next, Carmarthen travel to league leaders Neath for a challenging fixture.
