Carmarthen started their campaign at home against Whichurch and recorded a 4-2 win for the home team.
The match started quickly with Captain Osian Evans pouncing on a loose ball inside the opposition 22 driving into the 'D' and slotting the ball in the back of the net to give Carmarthen an early 1-0 lead. For the next 25 minutes Carmarthen camped in the opposing half playing some wonderful hockey but some fine saves from the whitchurch goalkeeper kept them alive in the game. 5 minutes from half time Whitchurch caught Carmarthen on the break to level up the match leading to the score being tied 1-1 at half time.
Carmarthen started the second half well but it was Whitchurch that scored the opening goal in the second half going up 2-1. Some nervous moments then followed as Whitchurch caught Carmarthen on the break but Keeper Lee Jones made a spectacular diving stick save to keep the score at 2-1. Next was Carmarthen's chance to attack and after a shot into the Whitchurch D some confusion errupted in their defence leading to the ball hitting the post and landing right in the lap of striker Jack Brennan who obliged the home fans and hit the ball in the back of the net levelling off the score at 2-2.
After leveling the score, Carmarthen were firmly in control. This time it was Carmarthen's chance to try out the counter attack, the ball was pushed forward to Gwynne who striked the ball at the edge of the 'D', the keeper made a fine save but the ball rebounded straight into Gwynne's lap and he slotted it home for Carmarthen's third of the day. The fourth and final goal came from a run down the right hand side of the pitch from winger Luke Dunning who ran into the D and stiked the ball into the back of the net. Final score 4-2.
Special shoutout to Ryan 'Jaguar' for his man of the match display after a spectacular performance at left back.
Awesome Wally.
