Carmarthen welcomed Bridgend 3rds at home to much anticipation after Bridgends 10-0 victory against Bridgend 4s last week. The game started in glorious sunshine and the momentum of the game swung back and forth without anyone gaining the upper hand for very long.
The first opportunity came after Carmarthen gave up a short corner but defender Ryan 'Jags' put his body on the line and Carmarthen were able to clear their lines effectively. Jags was replaced temporarily and Defender Dave F came on from the bench to make some important tackles to allow Carmarthen to get back up to the Bridgend half.
Wingers Luke and Will exploited the space out wide for Bridgend playing some lovelly 1-2s with midfielder Cai and Carmarthens best chance of the opening 20 came when striker Tom was put through one on one with the goal keeper. Remarkably the Bridgend goal keeper managed to somehow clear the ball through the legs of Tom and eased the pressure on his side. A few moments later, Lee Richardson playing at RB took the sideline ball quickly giving Carmarthen some momentum, the ball was played up to Jonti playing his first game for the club and with some spectacular turns he fired the ball across the face of the 'D' but unfortunately Carmarthen weren't able to capitalise on the opportunity.
The first goal of the game came from a Bridgend short corner just before the half time whistle leading to a 1-0 score at half time for the visitors.
The second half started with Bridgend being awarded a short corner but some remarkable saves from goal keeper Lee J kept Carmarthen in the game. The heavens then opened and Carmarthen took full opportunity to attack the Bridgend half while enjoying some 'light' rain. Carmarthen upped the pace of the game with midfielder Duncan providing some spark and attacking the Bridgend goal, the ball made its way out to the right hand side of the 22 where Josh 'JR' was waiting for the ball, he fired it across where the ball was pushed into the air and taken down superbly by Gwynne with the ball landing in the lap of Tom who obliged and fired at the goal where Wally was waiting for an easy tap in from a well worked team goal. 1-1
In the last 10 minutes Bridgend had a sustained bit of pressure but Russel coordinated his defence well allowing Carmarthen to clear all the pressure and allowing the attack to go forward and try and win the game. A second goal alluded both teams and the final score was 1-1.
Shout out to striker Jonti for playing his first game for the club and being awarded with the teams MoM
